My Hero Soundtrack

Because I made a villain soundtrack, I had to do the hero spread as well. I’m not nearly as confident about this line-up, but here it is:

Blow Me AwayBreaking Benjamin
IndestructibleDisturbed
It Doesn’t MatterSonic Adventure 2
NemoNightwish

My Villain Soundtrack

Alrighty, when I listen to music, I imagine what would be happening if it were the soundtrack to a movie I was a character in. Also, I like top-five lists, so here are my top five songs I would be a villain to in a movie:

Brand New DayDr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog
DirtDepeche Mode
Rev 22:20Puscifer

Quick Review of Rant

Well, let’s see here. What can I write about before I dash to work… I finished Rant by Chuck Palahniuk.

It was a great read for sure — a bit vulgar for my tastes, but a brilliant read all the same. The man knows people, and he knows his literary devices. Furthermore, he has mastered the art of the mystery box.

I feel like to gain a complete understanding of the tale, I’d probably have to read it again. There are just so many moments and characters that he shares game-changing revelations about long after they are introduced, which would pack those lines with even more meaning when reread. The Good, the Bad, and the Feminist

I hate feminism.

I don’t mean the well-reasoned, equalist feminism. That stuff is awesome. I mean that radical bull aiming to create laws that make it so women have more rights than men. I mean the feminists who hope to resolve some vendetta against men by charging them more for a community event in some misguided attempt to highlight the pay disparity.

Is the goal to hit us back based on gender alone? We’re not all oppressors – I promise. And when did two wrongs start making a right? My bad. I must have missed that memo.

These must be the same women who will use their feminine wiles to manipulate and control the weaker-willed among us or evade traffic tickets by rocking the water works. Weird how we’re sensitive to that, huh? Damn you, hormones and empathy!

That said, there is a whole world of feminists who are doing it right. Anita Sarkeesian, for example, the woman behind FeministFrequency.com.

A Couple of Improvements

Hey team,

I made a few changes to my portfolio of article samples: I created a spot for feature stories, added a couple articles I wrote for The Corvallis Advocate, and killed my “other articles” section. Oo, also, I replaced my old resume with the one formatted and edited by my good friend Jennie. It’s now a mighty fine lookin’ resume!

I think the next set of changes will be to redo all of my post categories, and I think I’ll make it so readers can view posts by categories because I write about a number of completely unrelated topics — It is my personal blog after all. Read the rest of this entry »

Nerd-love for TableTop

I love TableTop. Heck, the Geek & Sundry Youtube channel was custom made for people like me. Everything on there is nerdy and awesome.

This is my favorite episode of TableTop so far. I love it for the people: Colin Ferguson seems like a very cool guy, Anne and Wil Wheaton are a lot of fun, and now I’ve a big ol’ crush on this Amy Dallen. I feel like I regularly game with everyone at that table. Read the rest of this entry »

Employment Over Academia

I’m a much better employee than an academic. Even if I enjoy learning as much as anyone, being an academic just takes different qualities than being an employee. But I don’t plan to go deeply into that right now. I just wanted to explain (more for myself) why I let my fiction writing course crash and burn.

I mentioned before how much work was involved in this class. That was when we were getting two stories a week to heavily critique. We had been given four last week. Also, my story was due.

My laptop and bag were all kinds of filled with notes and things, so I hadn’t procrastinated as terribly as I could have, but I still left myself with more to do the day before than a reasonable person would have. Read the rest of this entry »
